Kenya’s ecommerce industry is currently experiencing tremendous growth backed by internet penetration, mobile money transfer and easy delivery methods. Many Kenyans have taken advantage of this and have started successful ecommerce businesses in Nairobi, Kenya.

By the way did you know that Kenya is leading Africa in Internet penetration with 67% of the population in Kenya classified as Internet users.  (31.99m Internet users) versus 18% of the total African population defined as internet users.

Below are the steps to follow when you want to start an ecommerce business in Nairobi, Kenya:

1.       Identify the products you want to sell

To start an ecommerce business in Nairobi, Kenya you first have to decide the kind of products you would like to sell online. These products have to be very competitive in terms of quality and price.

2.       Get a business name

After you have identified the kind of products that you would like to sell, you will need to come up with a simple and easy to remember business name. This will most probably be your website domain name. So keep the name simple, memorable and let it communicate.

3.       Select your business model and register your business

You have now gotten a name and the products you want to sell, the next step is to register the business and identify your suppliers. There are two ways of working with suppliers, you can either buy goods from them and stock or you can do what we call back to back ordering.

This simply means you only order goods when you have received orders from your customers hence you do not keep any inventory.

4.       Build a website and set up social media platforms

You have your name right, you know where to get your products, only thing remaining is where to get clients. You will now need to set up a virtual store (website) where clients can come shop, make payments and either have goods delivered to them or pick them at designated areas.

There is much that goes into it and we will be happy to help you start an ecommerce business in Nairobi, Kenya.
